The retail sector in Colombia is a dynamic and growing sector that represents an important contribution to the country's economy. In 2022, represented 13.6% of Colombia's GDP, generating more than 3 million direct jobs.
Its most relevant subsectors are:
- Food and beverage retail: represents 52.2% of the value added of the sector and includes supermarkets, convenience stores, and other establishments that sell food and beverages.
- Apparel and footwear retail: represents 14.3% of the value added of the sector and includes clothing stores, shoe stores, and other establishments that sell apparel and footwear.
- Electronics and home appliances retail: represents 10.8% of the value added of the sector and includes electronics stores, home appliances stores, and other establishments that sell electronics and home appliances.
- Other products retail: represents 22.7% of the value added of the sector and includes furniture stores, electronic items stores, toys, and other establishments that sell a variety of products.
The Colombian government is promoting the development of the retail sector through policies and programs, such as the National Development Plan 2023-2030. The National Development Plan aims to increase the participation of the retail sector in GDP to 16% by 2030.
