The most relevant subsectors of the sector are:

  • Buildings: includes the construction of residential, commercial, industrial, and public buildings. In 2022, represented 57% of the value added of the sector.
  • Civil works: includes the construction of road, rail, airport, hydraulic, and energy infrastructure. In 2022, represented 30% of the value added of the sector.
  • Mining and oil: includes the construction of infrastructure for the exploration and exploitation of natural resources. In 2022, represented 13% of the sector.

The Colombian government is promoting the development of the engineering and construction sector through policies and programs such as the National Infrastructure Plan (PNI) and the National Development Plan (PND). The PNI aims to invest $1.5 trillion in infrastructure during the 2022-2026 period, and the PND aims to increase infrastructure investment from 2.5% to 5% of GDP.
